Rally With This: Green Earth Group

By Ali*, on November 21, 2009

So many creative people want to change the world.

But we try it on our own terms, in our own way and basically . . .  on our own. We don’t get too far.

I’m guilty. I like to be creative – I spend all my energy on my own world-saving projects (like Whirled Peas) and I don’t have it left for the times people get together to make change.

It’s called being an ‘armchair activist’ and that’s fine when there’s nothing else going on.

Well today I broke my mould and went along to the Vegan Bake Off, a fundraiser for Green Earth Festival. It was awesome.

The Green Earth Group Inc aims to shine light on all things green, sustainable and cruelty-free, with a major festival happening in March 2010.

For them it’s about empowering everyone with awareness so they can be part of the essential solutions for our planet.

Winner Josh Leuner

The focus of GEG is very much on diet, which makes good sense because it’s the one thing anyone can do at no cost but with multifold benefits.

All I can say is that these guys are simply doing it. They’ll make a difference without us – that’s for sure – but together we can accomplish so much more.

It wasn’t an awesome time because of numbers. One girl won a ribbon for a pie that was the only one in its category – it hadn’t been hadn’t been tasted! It was yummy though.

Winner Techa Charles

I was impressed because there’s a community there. The best thing though is that it’s really open .

Take this for instance: while the event was obviously promoting veganism, the omnivores there were so comfortable and welcome that I didn’t know who was who. A great place to drag your ma or pa!

Leigh-Chantelle and Ben Gill

Four great musicians performed for the small gathering – GEG organizer Leigh-Chantelle who sang with Ben Gill from Malevolence, country solo artist Stuart Docherty and Sanat – who played a hypnotic blend of relaxation and jazz on sexy 1970’s strat. That was cool.

Call to Action

Sign up to the Green Earth Group mailing list (at the bottom of their main page).

I’ll be posting info on fundraisers and events by Green Earth Group here too.

And you’ll see me at whatever they’re doing – say hi to the redhead.
